The Wine Pig's 12 Wines of Christmas 2016

While we're all celebrating the festive seasons, The Wine Pig would like to introduce it's top 12 wines of Christmas! It was an EPIC line up this year and we wish a huge congratulations and thank you to everyone involved!  Fern Hill Athyrium, James Estate Christmas is here!!!! And back by popular demand The Wine Pig kicks off its 12 Wines of Christmas with an excellent Aussie sparkling wine. James Estate's Fern Hill Athyrium non-vantage sparkling Blanc de Blanc has tropical notes with plenty of honey and citrus. A perfect way to kick off Christmas dinner!!

Nebbiolo Rose, Pokolbin Estate "It's starting to look a lot like Christmas..." Day 2 for The Wine Pig's #12winesofchristmas and we're onto a delicious Nebbiolo Rose by Pokolbin Estate Vineyard. Not only are these guys the only vineyard in Hunter Valley to be growing the Nebbiolo variety, it's also the first ever time Pokolbin Estate has made this traditional European style wine, having previously only used Shiraz. Think strawberries and peaches wrapped up in a traditional dry Rose. A perfect way to kick off a Christmas seafood feast!

2014 Shiraz, Mountainside Wines "On the 3rd day of Christmas my true love gave to me...." ? Mountainside Wines' 2014 Shiraz. It's a quiet achiever, but one that really deserves a spot on The Wine Pig's #12winesofchristmas this year! It's elegant and gently spicy, with big lashings of black pepper, blackcurrant and a smidging of oak and nutmeg overtones. Bloody delicious now and it promises to get even better 3-5 years!!

B-Side LS8 Semillon, Mount Pleasant Wines "Im dreaming of a White Christmas..." or more accurately a Semillon Christmas!! Day 4 of The Wine Pig's #12winesofchristmas is the perfect time to crack open Mount Pleasant's B-Side LS8 Semillon. It's a rich, luscious and off dry Semillon with fresh citrus, apricot & mandarin flavours. It would be a crime not to have this one on your dinner table this festive season.

2016 Bella's Moscato, Burnbrae We’ve swapped five gold rings for 2016 Bella’s Moscato from Mudgee’s very own Burnbrae for the fifth day of The Wine Pig’s #12winesofchristmas. Its natural sweetness is complemented by a little bit of acidity, which complements the big and fruity Turkish Delight flavors. It’s fresh, vibrant and absolutely delicious. Perfect for those with a bit of a sweeter tooth sitting around your Christmas table.

2012 Sagrantino, Lou Miranda Estate Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer probably had his snout in a glass of Lou Miranda’s 2012 Sagrantino… if he knew what was good for him. The sixth day of The Wine Pig’s #12winesofchristmas is bold, hearty and beautiful with lots of excellent red plum fruit with a teeny bit of spicy pepper. Are you serving some rich gamey meat at Christmas this year? Then you’ll definitely need a couple of bottles of this.

High Altitude Pinot Grigio, McWilliams “Mistletoe and wine”… LOTS of wine, especially if it’s McWilliams’ High Altitude Pinot Grigio. As the season is heating up, it makes complete sense that day 7 of The Wine Pig’s #12winesofchristmas this year is a super refreshing, crisp wine which is packed to the brim with juicy apple and pear flavours. It’s exactly what you need to complement the long summer nights we have ahead.

2015 Soumah Brachetto d’Soumah (Frizzante), Soumah There isn’t much that screams Christmas cheer better than The Wine Pig’s latest addition to the #12winesofchristmas. For the 8th day of festive celebrations we cracked open a 2015 Soumah Brachetto d’Soumah (Frizzante). It’s got everything: a lovely appealing colour to underline its personality, a beautiful aroma of Turkish delight and lime zest. And here comes the best part… it’s stunningly refreshing due to the zesty natural acidity and light fizz, because after all, life is flat without bubbles!

Ernest Allan 2014 McLaren Vale Shiraz, Gemtree Wines It’s the 9th day of Christmas already, and today we’re rocking around the Christmas tree with a big glass of Gemtree’s Ernest Allan 2014 McLaren Vale Shiraz, no #12winesofchristmas list would be complete without it! It’s medium-bodied silky deliciousness is packed full of blackberries and dark fruit. It’s so good you’ll struggle to share with anyone, so we’d advise stocking up on a couple of bottles..!

2014 Muscat, Eagles Rest It’s day 10 of the #12winesofchristmas and no Christmas is ever complete without a desert wine!! But there are sooo many to chose from. Well, you don’t need to bother looking any further than Eagles Rest’s 2014 Muscat – a fortified Brandy spirit with subtle burnt orange, vanilla and caramelized fig flavors which is so god damn delicious that it’ll dance itself right off your table if you don’t get in there quick!

2015 Emanai, Toolangi Vineyards It's the 11th day of Christmas and we're leaping for joy about Toolangi's new release 2015 Emanai. A 50:50 blend of Chardonnay and Viognier mature dance in French oak, this wine is refreshingly delicious with lots of grapefruit and apricot flavours complemented with a smoky finish. A perfect addition to The Wine Pig's #12winesofchristmas this year.

1838 first vines 2015 McLaren Vale Shiraz, Doc Adams Wines For the 12th Wine of The Wine Pig's Christmas list this year we cracked open a 1838 first vines 2015 McLaren Vale Shiraz from our good friends over at @docadamswines. An intense and amazingly powerful deep red wine full to the brim of juicy red berries with a hint of smokiness. The ultimate indulgence and a perfect way to round of the #12winesofchristmas
