The Wine Pig's 12 Wines of Christmas 2018

James Estate, Tarrawarra Estate and Tim Adams are just a few names to appear in this year's line up.
James Estate, Reserve Hunter Valley sparkling Rose
We’re kicking off this year’s 12 Wines of Christmas series with a bang... or rather a POP, with James Estate’s 2016 Reserve Hunter Valley sparkling Rose. It’s a perfect blend of Shiraz, Cab Franc and Merlot using the French traditional method. It has lots of strawberry on the nose but a rich creamy citrus on the tongue with a great refreshing finish. An absolute must-have for this festive season. We can’t wait to show you what the rest of the line up will bring!
The Hedonist, Tempranillo 2018
It was an easy decision to add The Hedonist’s 2018 Tempranillo to our fabulous festive line up this year. Certified organic, biodynamic, estate grown, 100% Tempranillo... this traditionally vinified wine is just goddamn fabulous! Bright berry fruit bursts through with a wonderful savoury, oaky, long and supple finish. We just love it! A perfect choice for a warm December day.
Mountainside Wines, Viongier 2017
Mountainside Wines ticks all the boxes in what we love in a fabulous Australian Viognier. Delightfully fresh and clean, with juicy stone fruit and a hint of citrus, this wine is a perfect alternative to an unoaked Chardonnay. The Grampians-based family-owned and operated winery is a strong but quiet achiever, and one that certainly deserves a place on our 12 Wines of Christmas for 2018.
Warburn Estate, 1164 Riverina Montepulciano
A newcomer on the list this year... Warburn Estate’s 1164 Riverina Montepulciano is a bold and intense wine with strong red berry notes balanced by classic robust tobacco-like flavours. It’s a fantastic nod to the Estate founder’s Italian origins and gets a big thumbs up from us.
Matriarch & Rosé, Sangiovese Rose 2016
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a great Aussie Rosé wine, and this one ticks all the boxes. Matriarch And Rogue’s Clare Valley 2016 Sangiovese Rosé is is clean, juicy and fresh with a hint of Sangiovese spice.
Tarrawarra Estate, 2016 South Block Chardonnay
Tarrawarra make a goddamn great Chardonnay!! 💛 Made without yeast or acid addition, the wine is matured in French Oak for 10 months, making a beautiful smooth and silky wine with fine tannins, a touch of oak and lots of refreshing citrus. Don’t make do without it this Christmas time.
Molly's Cradle, Premium Hunter Release Shiraz 2017
Molly’s Cradle’s premium Hunter Valley release 2017 Shiraz is bold and rich with lots of juice berry notes balance with a lovely earthy spice. A perfect way to round out the first week of the festive season.
Tim Adams, Mr Mick Riesling 2018
The eighth day of Christmas calls for a classic Australian Clare Valley Riesling. Tim Adam’s Mr Mick 2018 Riesling is a great dry style with lots of citrus, lovely acidity rounded out by a slight touch of sweetness.
Usher Tinkler, Mr T's Rare Batch Fortified Wine
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a fabulous fortified wine! Usher Tinkler’s Mr T’s rare batch fortified liqueur ticks all the boxes for us! It’s a fortified Verdelho that has been barrel aged for 15 years, giving it delicious sweet caramel flavours with some toast and spice.
Cake Wines, Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
We couldn’t have this year’s 12 Wines of Christmas without including one of our new go-to wines. You can have your Christmas cake AND drink it with this blooming marvellous McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon by the fabulous Cake Wines. It’s deliciously silky smooth with deep red berry notes and subtle aniseed on the nose.
Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley Riesling 2016
Another fabulous Aussie Riesling for the list, this time from Pewsey Vale in Eden Valley. Home to some of the regions first vines, the vineyard is rich in history and also taste. This Riesling is full of lime, tropical fruit and a touch of pepper wrapped up with a long, clean finish.
Savannah Estate, Marsanne 2017
It’s the last and final day of this year’s 12 Wines of Christmas series and we thought it best to finish with a clean, crisp and elegant Mudgee-region Marsanne from the iconic Savannah Estate. Savannah only selects the very best fruit to produce small batches of distinctive wines, and we think this one is a standout
