The Wine Pig was rushed off its trotters in July. We've had plenty of warm, and incredibly sunny, winter days so we've enjoyed many gorgeous sunsets on the balcony and dinner parties in the new pad.
Mid-month we took a rather interesting lunchtime boat trip over to Bundeea RSL in Sydney's South were we cracked open a refreshing Pinot Grigio and sat in quiet until our small little human woke up from his nap.
The wine cellar has taken a battering this month, with a fair chunk of our collection cracked open for various small and large celebrations. I guess now we'll have to work on building it back up again... tough times.
But most importantly, and we're saving the best until last, 31 July marks The Wine's Pig's very own third birthday - a proud and nostaligic moment for us here at WinePig HQ. We've had a wonderful fun-filled three years, blessed and the support of so many followers and wine piglets near and far, and we're looking forward to what the next few years will bring.
We’ve held onto our Mansfield Road Firetail for 5 whole years before finally deciding we’ve waited long enough to crack this beauty open, and it’s only improved further with time. A blend of Garnaha, Shiraz and Monstrell, Firetail is a traditional Mediterranean style wine which is rich and spicy with a savoury finish.
2016 Old-Vine Pale, Garage Wine Co. Maule, a uniquely light and fruity red wine served chilled. A blend of Carignan, Garnacha & Mataro, it has delicious strawberry and raspberry notes, is ever so slightly sweet but very fresh. Perfect for a sunny day.
It’s time to celebrate #winewednesday with this absolutely scrumptious 2015 ‘The Evangelist’ Barossa Shiraz by St John’s Road. It’s packed with juicy red berries and hint of oak all wrapped up in an amazingly smooth medium-to-heavy bodied wine. What a wonderful example of an excellently elegant Shiraz. We love it!
A wonderfully bright, fresh and fruity Pinot Grigio, perfect for unseasonably warm winter evenings.
It’s easy to see why this one won so many awards last year. Nothing quite fills our little hearts with joy than stumbling across a great wine at an absolutely bargain price ❣?? Aldi’s One Road South Australia & Heathcote 2017 Shiraz does just that. It’s lusciously fruity with a hint of spice and a lovely soft finish.
Heifer Station’s stunning 2018 Pinot Gris is on the menu at The Wine Pig HQ this #sundayfunday! Elegantly fruity and smooth with lots of pear and honeycomb, an excellent cold climate wine.
Well there’s a thought that’s now burnt into my brain forever.
It’s a Cabernet Sauvignon kind of Wednesday. Penna Lane’s 2016 Cab Sav is fresh and bright with lots of lovely dark fruits, namely blackcurrant, and with a little bit of vanilla and a hint of oak from those spices French barrels.
A crisp dry rose which is intensely floral and has amazing peachy notes. The 2017 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose is beautiful elegant and a wine to remember.
13 July - Bundeena RSL, Sydney
Beautiful day for a refreshingly crisp and vibrant Pinot Grigio and a backdrop to suit. Lots of lovely pear and a hint of spice to round it off.
Josef Chromy’s silky smooth 2012 Pinot Noir is full with lots of juicy black cherry notes interwoven with a bit of spice and delicate oak. A perfect cold climate wine which has certainly improved with an extra 6 years in the cellar.
An interesting one from Aldi’s wine collection. The Pond 2017 Northern Victoria Pinot Grigio Chardonnay is fresh and vibrant with ample acidity and citrus fruit and a lingering finish. A refreshing blend of two iconic wines.

What a delicious Pinot Gris! Dry and fruity, lots of green apple and a hint of citrus, but wonderfully soft. De Bortoli’s La Boheme Act Three Pinot Gris is a fabulous Yarra Valley wine full of character which you could just sit and drink all day!
La Griffe Bernard Chéreau Muscadet Sévre et Maine Sur Lie - a wonderfully floral and fragrant French white wine which complements some green apple and melon notes. Simple, elegant and utterly delightful.
Refreshingly clean and crisp with lots of tropical fruit and green apple. If you love a great Verdelho then James Estate’s 2017 Upper Hunter Valley Verdelho is a a must.
We’ve been itching to crack open this beauty since our trip to NSW’s Orange winery region a mere three years ago, and it lived up perfectly to our expectations. One of the highest and coolest vineyards in Australia, it’s unsurprisingly Mayfield Vineyard make such a cracking Pinot Noir. An elegant and light wine with plenty of big cherry and raspberry notes. We just love it.
Hello treat night! Heifer Station’s 2017 Pinot Noir and pork roast = heaven ? We love Orange’s cold climate wines. Heifer Station’s Pinot Noir is such a smooth, elegant wine with lots of sour cherry and red berries.
Friday night with a fresh and fruity Chardonnay. Lemon, lime, peach and a little oak. So refreshing and simple
Clos Thou Suprême de Thou Jurançon 2015. A beautiful and well balanced desert wine with lots of honey
Shiraz Monday’s are my favourite. Any excuse for a great glass of wine in a great bar with great company #ButtonBarSydney
